Stunning Crystal Clear Sound,
Among the over ear headphones I own are both Momentums, Fidelio X2, Sennheiser HD 650,Nad Visio HP-50, B&W P7, B&O H6 and VModa M100.
These are my first Planar Magnetics and man are they fantastic. The sound is very balanced with a very slight roll off at the higher frequencies. The bass and mid-range are perfect. Distortion is almost non existent even at higher volumes. They are a little bit heavy but so comfortable I don’t really notice. They sound every bit as good if not better than all the headphones I mentioned above.
For the record I have been listening to lossless files using the Tidal music service with the Oppo HA-2 and the Teac HA-P50 headphone amps.
In closing these are now my go to headphones. I highly recommend them

Closed, small, light, neutral planars with great sound. Recommended with slight reservation.,
I find them comfortable, but they do touch my ears, so not quite as comfortable as some others. They are a hint smaller than the Sennheiser HD600 or HD650 earcups if you are used to those.
Sound is very neutral overall, in contrast to the V-shaped sound you hear with most popular headphones. Lovely mids but also great bass extension (but not bassy) and treble detail. I listen to all sorts of music in them – pop, rap, funk, jazz, rock, classical – and they are great with all of them.
Isolation is very good. They are good at blocking out sound as well as keeping it in. They are also very good looking IMO.
Why leave off the last star? I don’t really know how to explain it, but these lack a little bit in excitement. I suppose that comes with being neutral, but my HD600 are also very neutral and somehow are more exciting at the same time. Maybe it has to do with the PM3s being both neutral and closed. They just don’t sound big enough. I can’t really explain it – they just don’t speak to me to the degree that my favorite headphones do.
So my search for the perfect (for me) closed over-ear headphones continues. I just bought a pair of used Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 headphones. Hoping they will be the ones. Review to follow!
