I got this TV from tiger direct for 400+50 dollar mail-in rebate. it’s been three days as of today and so far everything looks ok. This TV doesn’t have smart tv feature but with a roku stick you are all set for it. Not only you can use remote control to navigate roku, I am surprised that my PS3 seems to work fine with this TV’s remote. I can do everything except turning on or of my PS3. Out of 3 HDMI inputs only one is capable of displaying 4k 60hz 4:2:0 signal. The other 2 one of them is MHL 1060p 60HZ and 4K 30HZ capable. I have no way of testing 4K 60 hz but using my laptop I’ve been able to test 4K 25hz and of course resolution is stunning. So, for the price point having a 60hz 4k is a steal. I was going to buy a 1080p tv since my tv died the other day, surprisingly I realized this TV has good upconverting capabilities even from 720p (PS3 can can only show Hi-res 1080p YouTube videos as 720p) Of course netflix is is even better with 1080p resolution. To sum, I went out to buy a 1080p tv and ended up buying this 4k tv. So Iam happy with it. If there is anyone out there who can test the 4k 60hz HDMI port. I’d appreciate your comments.

Great TV but you NEED a 4K box or something to give you 4k Content, Great for Tv and Video Games, August 23, 2015

This review is from: Sceptre U508CV-UMK 50-Inch Glass 4K Ultra HD 120Hz LED TV (Electronics)
First let me say that I am not an avid picture critic or videophile (is that word?). I purchased this from another retail source but I just had to post about my experiences…I unboxed it, TV was decently packaged, the remote is super cheap but does the job. Sadly this isn’t one of the TVs that can stream 4k from netflix right now. You will be hard pressed to just go to a store and buy a 4k TV without doing research about the limited content options. Now let me say, I have an Alienware Alpha system and I didn’t even know it was possible, but with a driver update recently I was able to start seeing all of my content in true 4k@60hz resolution! I did some testing and played some games like Ultra Street Fighter IV and in 4k benchmarking it was able to play on high at over 120 frames! I know I won’t see those frames but the games looked great, and I am talking about the lowest Alienware Alpha i3 model with 8gb ram. I downloaded some 4k content and watched a 4K timescape video and some other 4K content and we were mesmerized by the quality, beautiful colors, lovely detail…If you’re asking, you can really tell the difference from 1080p. My previous tv was a very high end 47″ 1080p Vizio smart TV that I loved, and like with all old technology it was about 4 years old and this was a great deal so I upgraded and gave the Vizio to my parents. The speakers on this set are below average but I have always used a home theatre in box Onkyo surround sound so I could care less. Watching cable (HD) and other sources like PS4 and Wii U is great, this TV is just fine for gaming in the living room, this is including Arkham Knight (PS4) WOW. I will say that if you intend to buy this TV for just 4k content, be mindful that there is not much content available unless you buy a 4k streaming box since companies have only limited 4k options to 10 or so TVs. I would have waited to buy this if I had to, but the Alienware really made this thing shine since I can play all these games at 4k resolution (minus Witcher 3) now. Finally I did not run to a local store and look at this before purchase, nor did I really compare this to a Sony or Samsung 4k set directly. I have traditionally always purchased those TVs and they have always been great quality products. I did some digging and it turned out that Sony actually owns this company, and they are based out of the U.S. so that made me rest easier…In short I have had this for about 3 months, clear sailing and a great picture if you can find 4k content or a box to plug into this that will let you watch it. Games played: Sonic Generations WOW!!, Sniper Elite 3 Great, Dying Light Med-Low, MKX Med-Low, Left 4 dead 2 Wow!, Witcher 3 Med-Low, Double Dragon neon WOW! Mario 3d isn’t in 4k but I love the game anyway. Finally if you are into smart TV (I’m not I’d rather keep the smart part separated from the TV at this time). You can purchase a Roku dongle and connect this into the USB port. If you are in a jam and need a TV and are on a budget, this is a well made television after some setting tweaks.

After reading some of the reviews I was a little skeptical purchasing this model. It was all for naught. This unit couldn’t be easier to install and set up.
Picture is fantastic for the price, does it have all the picture settings of the 1500-2000 dollar models, no, but it is a great value for the price.

I bought this 4K UHTV to replace a Panasonic 42″ plasma that died. I bought the Sony when it was priced at $1300. Now it’s $800. I did get the difference back from BB, since they honored their low price guarantee.

    A brand-new Sony 43″ 4K for $800? Yep. I was happy with it at $1300, now I’m absolutely delighted.

This TV has one of the best pictures I have ever seen. And for me, that’s the bottom line. Netflix in 4K, which was added 5/31/15, has to be seen to be believed. It really is as good as you’ve heard. So is YouTube in 4K. Amazon Prime Instant Video in 4K isn’t here yet, but the 1080 version is, and it looks great.

Every source you play through this TV is upscaled to 4K, and everything looks wonderful. Regular TV, recorded HD TiVo programs, streaming shows, Blu-Ray, AppleTV, the Playstation 4, and even a PC when using this as a computer monitor. Plus, I use a Google Nexus 6 smartphone, which shoots video in 4K. I uploaded some clips to YouTube and they look insanely good on the TV. Everything looks better than ever.

It has a lot of inputs: 4 HDMI (all support 4K) 3 USB, one component, one composite, ethernet, antenna, etc. One great feature, for those of us who have older AV receivers without HDMI capability – all the audio that enters this set, whether HDMI, streaming, OTA or analog, is output via the digital optical cable. So I can just leave my receiver on TV input, and everything comes out great. It does produce surround sound – but the 5.1 lights on my receiver don’t come on. No big deal – the surround sound is excellent.

To use this for 4K streaming, you will need fast internet. But that’s true of every 4K set. I have 75/75 and it’s great. The only issue is sometimes on YouTube or Netflix 4K, the picture stutters a bit from time to time. It will stop…and a second later start again. I’m not sure whether that’s this TV, or my internet. I’m going to try a test with the Nvidia Shield 4K STB, to see if that stutters, too. I’ll let you know.

In a way, this TV is like an enormous smartphone. It’s powered by Android TV, using Google’s Lollipop OS. It has apps like a phone, has to be updated like a phone, and even needs the occasional restart like a phone. It connects to the Google Play store, as well as Google Music and Movies.

Sony is gradually releasing the software for this set over time, when it becomes available. A lot of it is just being approved for Android TV. That’s why Netflix just came out – Google just released 4K Netflix for Android TV three days ago. I believe a browser will arrive soon, along with Amazon 4K, and perhaps Ultraflix (4K movies). So far, the updates happen every two weeks, on Sunday morning. So we’ll see what, if anything, we get June 14th.

This model is Sony’s entry level 4K. It does not come with the voice-activated remote, and does not feature some of the the ultra-high-end picture elements the huge screens do. But I had to fit this into a specific cabinet, and I needed this exact size screen.

For me? The unbelievable picture quality, the price, the features and the size make it a home run.

Purchased 5/19. Initial setup and firmware update did not support Netflix. Netflix software updated 5/30. Everything is good now. Additional
Apps expected according to Sony notification. This TV is fun to use and watch movies. Blu Ray produces exceptional viewing. Do not hesitate. Just buy it, seeing is believing. 6/18/2015. Software update. Improvement in picture quality and overall performance. More apps. Ignore poor reviews.

Great as a computer monitor. It being a television is just a bonus., May 24, 2015

This review is from: Sony XBR43X830C 43-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz Smart LED TV (2015 Model) (Electronics)
Let me start off by saying that my experience will probably differ from most as my intended purpose was not to get a great television which this is in my estimation, but to get a new monitor for my gaming rig so I could play in ultra high definition, and it is entirely as advertised. The colors are far more vivid, the image is crisper, the jaggies have gone away, and the image is more detailed. So much so that you start to appreciate a lot of subtle details you couldn’t see previously. The extra real estate is also well worth the investment especially once more applications begin to make use of the higher resolution in the future, and to top it all off this television isn’t going to cap you are at an absurdly low frame rate, or for that matter a good frame rate, but is giving you a lot more leg room. Getting over sixty frames per second matters to some more then others, but it is nice to have it.

I had no issues with the setup process to convert this television into a monitor. Some assembly is required for the base, but in my estimation it is worth the time as the base is top quality. It is sturdy, stable, and made of metal. Very good for ones peace of mind. The initial booting up, and loading of the monitor is straight forward, and fairly painless. Though it is somewhat time consuming as the television take a little under an hour to fully install all the necessary files from your wireless modem. After that I simply set the television where I wanted it. Plugged it in, and hooked up the HDMI 2.0 cable to it, and to my gaming rig. Turned it on, scrolled down to the appropriate input device and clicked. My computer had no issues recognizing the device, and neither did my graphics card, or my drivers, and my computer had no issue at all using the television as far as audio was concerned. Definitely an added boon for yours truly as I was really hating on my old speakers.

There are a couple things that some should know that are new to the prospect of 4K. First while you can game in this resolution, and you will in time be able to watch 4K content through your televisions smart function, or watch 4K videos online. To be honest there aren’t too many available at this time. You will probably not be using the resolution for your other applications as most application haven’t been coded to scale properly at this time. Icons shrink, you get unsightly side bars, and well it is just a lot of hassle. Until companies update their operating systems, and their webpages, and so on and so forth. Good for gaming, good for streaming, lousy for browsing. The manufacturer can’t be held liable for that others need to catch up.

Second you need a 4K capable graphic card with HDMI 2.0 support as that is the only option in this situation, and obviously the cable to make it all happen, and perhaps most importantly of all be comfortable with a certain loss in performance. Unless you are running a beat you are going to take a hit in the frame rate department even if you turn a number of things down. One advantage is the higher resolution does make a number of graphical features redundant.

Now that all being said there is one other caveat. If you game on consoles this review doesn’t apply to you. Your machine will not allow you to be able to game at this resolution. The hardware is insufficient to the task. Even mid to high end gaming PC’s struggle to run this resolution. Well to be honest that is relative as most things are, but the point is still valid. I even have me doubts they can offer streaming at this resolution. I really don’t see how that is doable or practical. Maybe through some wild accessories, but you will have to pay for them, and honestly this television is seeing to that being redundant. It doesn’t need a console to connect you to that content. So anyway you can’t game at 4K with the current crop of consoles. For you that will have to wait till next generation, and cross your fingers on that.

Anyway in my opinion excellent as a monitor if you want to game loud and proud. It also being a functional television is a bonus as it has plenty of connection options, and the smart television functions only add to the package further. A great value for the purpose. I personally felt better by being able to see the television in action before I bought it. So I purchased at a brick and mortar.
