It is a great TV for the money. If you are a gamer, this TV has some of the fastest response times for fast action games. Input-Lag is 19ms with Gaming Mode ON
There is nothing on the market currently that can compete value wise. It is not as good as OLED TV but it comes close for thousands of dollars less. If you are in the market for a new TV; and you want to go BIGer….and can’t justify an OLED TV, this is it.
I will skip all the likes and only mention things I didn’t appreciate so far.
1. (Edit) There were a lot of complaints regarding this TV not being calibrated properly in the factory, requiring a need for a professional calibration in order to maximize the power of this TV. New Firmware uploaded by Vizio yesterday seems to have corrected most of the issues that I can see so far. I will test it with various content and update this review again, but so far so good. Amazon app now has 4k content you can view, although on a quick inspection Amazon 4k doesn’t have the same quality of streaming as Netflix 4k.
2. Remote is almost great and that’s why it’s a bit frustrating. Why does only one side (keyboard side) light up? Am I missing something? I use my phone flashlight to operate the TV remote at times. Not the most ideal design choice.
3. Screen is semi-reflective. I watch mostly in the evenings so it doesn’t bother me but If you planning on watching TV during the day in a bright room – get some shades.
Final thought; earlier I have said that this is a great TV for someone wanting to go bigger without paying the premium price for an OLED TV. By bigger I mean MINIMUM 60″ otherwise most of the 4k benefits are hard to distinguish. Save that money and buy yourself a larger good 1080p instead. I did multiple side by side comparisons and 60″ is where I and others started to see the benefits of 4k at about 8ft away seating distance. Also that was under perfect conditions with the actual 4k content. Don’t be fooled by slow moving demos where nature or carefully staged imagery is shown. Real test is fast moving action of movies presented in actual 4k. Even 4k shows streamed from Netflix like `Black List’ look only great when character is seating, walking etc..the moment there are significant spikes in movement 4k benefits disappear and you start to notice jaggedness around objects that are in motion. To be fair this is an issue with almost all TVs not just Vizio P series.
Tip: I have purchased my P70 on Visa. Visa has a purchase protection built in (other cards might too), which extends your warranty for 1 additional year. Also if the TV goes down in price during the first 3 months they will reimburse the difference. (Which is what they did as P70 went on sale during black Friday to $2100. In other words I got $400 back.)
Tip2: Don’t worry about few negative reviews about this TV 90% of the negative reviews refer to a tv being delivered damaged in some way. Yes there seems to be a quality control issue that you either going to get a perfect TV or you might have to go through a pain of return and re-ordering another one. (Never the less in my opinion it is still worth it, considering what you get for your money once you get a perfectly working set)

|Can not be beat for the price. (Updated),
This review is going to be about the 65″ version (P652UI-B2) of the new Vizio UHD “P” series of which I just picked up from BB. So for full disclosure and fairness, my original intent was to purchase the LG 65″ UHD (65UB9500), after a few weeks of back and forth between the two models. However BB didn’t have the LG in stock, and no expected date for replenishment, however upon inquiring, they had just received one of the 65″ Vizio’s in that same day, so I went for it.
Let me just say my first impressions are so far I do not regret the decision. The original deciding factor for the LG was the 10-bit color processor over the Vizio’s 8-bit, however it was very close otherwise, and I was a bit worried about several reviews of these Vizio’s being DOA right out of the box or damaged. Upon opening the box however and to great relief, the unit was perfect.
Did a temporary set up as wall mounting will come tomorrow, just to make sure the set powered on, etc.
Set-up is pretty straight forward and the tv guides you through setting up inputs and connecting to your wired or wireless home network. The P65 has wireless “ac” capability however I’ve not yet gotten a ac capable router so I connected the set to the wireless 5ghz band of my router for the time being. The set will also ask what is connected to each input ie; HDMI 1,2, etc and label the input accordingly.
After completing set up and a quick scrutinizing check of the screen for dead or stuck pixels, none were found so it was on to getting some initial impressions of picture quality with different sources. As I am certified in ISF calibration I will be updating my impressions after I calibrate the set as well. I first watched a few HD channels using my Time Warner cable dvr and performance was about as expected for an out of the box set, overly bright and saturated colors because of the “Vivid” mode the set was defaulted to so I set the picture mode to “Calibrated”, tamed the back light a bit and the picture was more acceptable and the 4k upscaling does it job.
My next test was with 4k content available on Netflix. I used the set’s Netflix app and signed in and selected the Netflix exclusive series “House of Cards” and to my surprise, the “UHD” streaming option was next to the title as apparently Netflix can tell the TV is UHD capable. This is where the set really shines and makes it worth every penny, even before being calibrated. As I said earlier, I connected the P65 to the 5ghz band of my wireless network and never once had an issue with the UHD Netflix stream, no freezing or buffering, just beautiful 4k resolution. The picture looked every bit as good as almost any 4k demo I’d seen. Details in skin, hair, clothing, etc were all there and crystal clear. I also watched an episode of “Breaking Bad” which is available in 4k as well, and while appearing a tad bit grainy at times, was still absolutely fantastic.
My last pre-calibration test was video games. As I am a somewhat avid gamer when I have the time, one of the selling points of the Vizio P series is the low input lag being reported by many in reviews and forums that I’ve read. To test gaming performance I used my Sony PS4 game console connected via HDMI, and the tv set to its “Game” mode in picture settings, which basically disables all extra and picture enhancement circuitry that can have an impact on input lag. As I play mainly FPS games I chose “Destiny” and “Battlefield 4” multi-player modes and I can confirm I noticed no impact on my gaming performance that could be attributed to input lag or the set itself. What I did notice however was these games looked absolutely fantastic in 4k resolution, even being upconverted. Destiny took on a whole new look with added depth and detail and an almost 3D quality, and Battlefield 4 never looked better, even compared to my high end gaming pc.
I’m not going to go into specific specs and the remote as those can be found on many reviews already, but what I will say, is that so far I give the new Vizio P series a high recommendation and if you want a straight forward, no nonsense performance built yet price friendly UHD tv, then the new Vizio P series is a no-brainer.
Update:
The P65 has now been wall mounted and calibrated and I’m extremely pleased with the results. The P65 has the option of two or eleven point white balance, as well as CMS adjustments, however I went with two point white balance and was able to get a near perfect 6500k RGB balance across the board, the CMS was a bit more tricky especially with red flesh tones. To its credit however, the set’s grayscale was extremely close out of the box however using the “natural” color temp setting. |Vizio 4k set that is hard to beat!,
I’ll keep updating this with both the good and bad of the set:
Pros:
-Really high image quality and colors
-Clean and stylish
-Cheap compared to competition
-Awesome for video games
-Deep blacks from dimmable zones
-User interface and remote are awesome
-Snappy and pretty interface that works well
-Remote is solid and comfortable with well built buttons. No LED but still great
-4K is really good
Cons:
-Sound isn’t fantastic (It is good, but not very rich)
-Some colors aren’t perfect, though with calibration can be good
-Pre built settings aren’t that great
Neutral:
-4k is difficult for a lot of people to see, especially far back from the TV. You only benefit on TVs over about 50 inches and sitting about 5 feet from it.
-Not a lot of 4k content (and it isn’t a lot different from 1080p)
-Not 3D. I mention this because Vizio has done a lot of 3D in recent years and this is their first set in a while without it. i wasn’t surprised or caught off guard by this, but a few people are already posting bad reviews because they apparently can’t research.
If you have a great 1080p television, this probably will not be a tremendous step up in quality. This set is on the cusp of where you get benefits for 4k resolution.
4k isn’t standard yet, but it will be. It won’t be long before almost all televisions made are using it. A lot of articles tell you there isn’t a difference between 2160p and 1080p but there is. From about ten feet away someone with sharp eyes will notice a difference, and from about six feet away anyone will notice the higher quality.
But don’t get too small of a TV. Size really does matter for 4k because it measures how many pixels you’re packing into a small space. 55” is a good place to go, or 60 if you’re feeling up for it. Makes it a comfortable size that’s easy to view.
And if nothing else it is a good TV that is future proof.
*Update 9/19* After using it for a few days I haven’t noticed any glaring issues with it. I don’t have a lot of 4k content to try out, only Netflix. The sharpness settings when I took it out of the box were pretty much atrocious, but after some tweaking I got it looking good.
It’s a lot deeper of blacks than I was expecting. Nothing compared to an OLED TV, but better than other Vizio models (we have a 60 inch of the E series as well).
I don’t have a ton of experience with top end 4k TVs. A friend has a Samsung and this is easily on par with it for a lot cheaper. The interface is snappy and doesn’t lock up very often, but some of the apps are still being optimized (Amazon) and don’t work fantastically. That being said, they are a lot better than they used to be and getting better. I haven’t run into any problems with them, though I don’t use a lot of the apps for smaller companies.
As for the upscaling, it’s hard to notice in most cases unless you are right in front of the TV. I’m not going to say “OMG IT BLOWS ME AWAY” because it doesn’t. But I’m still really happy with it because of the price.
*Update 9/24 (Gaming)*
So now I’ve had several days to try out different video games on Computer/XBox One/PS4. The one thing I was pleasantly surprised about was that in the computer mode and plugged into my computer the image quality is excellent. I don’t have an adapter to run 4k, but the sharpness of the words is still really nice. Gaming with the computer is good despite only hitting 1080p graphics. The color quality is still really nice.
The XBox and PS4 are where the system really shine. The XBox is hitting 1080p graphics on some games (Diablo/Destiny) and looks really nice, but the XBox system isn’t as good at putting out the sharp images as the PS4. When I ran Destiny on the TVs calibrated settings on the PS4 it looks amazing. It is sharp and smooth with excellent colors and contrast. The 64 dimmable zones really help here because it can reach some really dark blacks while maintaining color quality.
The clear image frame rate is really shining here as well. As long as it is on there is no stutter lag, screen tearing, or any other problems with motion. I can’t find any real blemishes, but my only complaint is that it dims the backlight quite a bit to achieve this effect. It isn’t really a problem, just takes a few minutes to get used to and does detract a little bit from quality. There is no video input lag so it makes it the perfect gaming 55″ TV *Edit…apparently some people think hyperbole is fact, so I’ll clarify that, for FPS games that require input lag, this TVs lag will not be noticeable by the vast majority of humans, so it works really well*.
