  I purchased this speaker under the assumption that it was only for a single speaker. I placed an order for 2 speakers and 4 were shipped to my house. Emailed the seller and he says they are selling a pair at this price. I don’t see anywhere that this listing is for 2 speakers…

  I haven’t hooked them up yet, but I took them out of the box and they all look good though.

  Updated to 4 stars. Speakers work just fine and look good.

  As an audio enthusiast, I’ve never been satisfied with the quality of sound produced by aftermarket computer speakers. After having read a few reviews in audio publications about these speakers, I bought a pair sight unseen. It turned out to be one of the best audio purchases I’ve ever made! When I unpacked them I was shocked by their size. These little gems aren’t much bigger than a milk carton. Also, I thought that the wrong product had been shipped because the gorgeous black lacquer finish looked like something you would see on a Steinway grand piano (better than I expected)! But, as good as these speakers look, they sound even better. I sat them on a pair of 6″ speaker stands (homemade) on my desk top and connected them to a 100 watt per channel integrated amp. What emanated from these tiny speakers was shocking! Smooth, extended, detailed treble that was neither harsh nor overbearing. And the bass! How such powerful, well defined bass notes can come from a 4″ woofer/midrange driver, I’ll never know. But, where these speakers really showed their mettle was in the midrange. Poor quality loudspeakers often exhibit one of two characteristics. They either have no midrange at all, exhibiting both boomy bass and shrill treble, or they have nothing but midrange, which is muddy and ill defined. The Design 4s have a midrange that is as open and transparent as many loudspeakers costing two or three times as much. After experimenting with positioning for a while, I sat back, closed my eyes, and could not pin point the source of the sound. What was created in front of me was a realistic concert stage on which each musician and vocalist was precisely positioned. Simply amazing! I hate to think that many people are going to walk into a big box retailer this holiday season and buy a big bulky pair of loudspeakers that cost as much or more than these Design 4s, and aren’t going to get nearly this level of performance. Don’t be one of those people.
