Leica M TYP 240 (Expanded Guides)

The 24-megapixel Leica M (Typ 240) is the latest digital rangefinder model that replaces the M9. Leica dropped the numbering system that has identified its rangefinders since the M3 was introduced in 1954, yet the simply elegance of its design still takes its cue from earlier models, and is available in black or chrome. Despite this, the M is definitely a camera for the 21st century. The first rangefinder to use a full-frame CMOS image sensor, it enables live view, and offers a choice of magnifi

This book is a step by step introduction to the new Leica M 240. I am new to the Leica system and find this book an excellent user’s manual. The illustrations are great and the explanations very clear. Great book for the Leica novice.

Much appreciated and easier to go through than the user manual. Leica have changed the firmware since this book was written, so there is a little difference in some of the menu structure.

I like it, its easy to read, follow and easily fits in my day pack, that is if one wants a little book to read when travelling. Otherwise a good little reference book.

The Expanded Guide is an excellent complement to the Leica M Instruction Manual. The text and illustrations are far more informative, simple to follow and easy to comprehend. The book goes beyond the functionality of the Leica M Typ 240, and includes chapters on lenses, flash (albeit there is no reference to Leica’s SCA Adapter Set), accessories, and a short guide to working with Adobe Lightroom (but no mention of Image Shuttle or tethering with the Multifunctional Handgrip M). The book is a conveniently sized carry-along reference, and, as the title implies, is an “expanded guide” to the camera’s original instruction manual (firmware version 2.0.0.12 had only been made available at the time of its writing). It does provide descriptions of Leica and non-Leica M lenses, but devotes merely one page to lens adapters with no expanded guide to “R-lenses” and their applications. Nonetheless, this book is a worthy purchase and a useful addition to your Leica reference library—meant to explore and appreciate the capabilities of this remarkable digital rangefinder camera.
