If you know what you’re buying, it’s well worth it., November 26, 2015

This was on sale on Amazon, but before I could complete the check out it had sold out. The same TV was available at Best Buy, so I took my chances and drove to the nearest one and grabbed it for the same price ($500 at the time).

It’s light weight, just 31.5 lbs and fairly slim. The one thing to pay attention to if you aren’t going to mount it on a wall is just how far the feet sit out on the tv. The image here on amazon isn’t exactly accurate. My old TV stand, which was holding a 55″ Sony, was not wide enough to hold this tv. The feet need something that is at least 43″ wide for them to sit on, as the feet reach out just as wide as the TV is.

The ports on the back of the TV could be a slight issue for those mounting it on the wall. Only the USB port is a “side mount”. All three of the HDMI ports are back mounted, and thus would be facing the wall. For an HDMI cable, that may not pose a large issue, but if you are using one of the streaming sticks, that could be a problem as your TV will need to be 3-4 inches from the wall to fit the streaming stick in there without buying one of those hinged HDMI adapters or a wall mount that extends out from the wall some. [update] The tv is mounted on the wall now, with a non-extending or leaning mount. I did use the spacers that came with the wall mount that give you some extra wiggle room for HDMI cables and such, but did have to buy one of those 90° HDMI adapters so I could connect my Roku Stick to the television since there is no way that would fit between the TV and the wall. [/update]

As for the TV itself, I must say that I’m impressed. The 4K quality is outstanding when you can find the content (Youtube – Netflix – Amazon Prime – Even stuff from my phone that records in 4K). Normal 1080p content looks good as well. The Smart TV apps do seem limited in number of options, but it’s got the big hitters: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Vudu, Google Play, Youtube and even offers the GoPro channel. The one channel missing that I was hoping for was Vimeo, but I’d imagine most users won’t miss it in the slightest. Within the smart apps, the layout is good (identical to the same apps on my Roku – so if you’re aware of that layout, it should be a breeze to figure it out – but it’s rather easy to navigate even if you aren’t used to it).

There is no “computer” input on this tv. No VGA or Display Port, just HDMI. I was able to hook up my laptop to the TV to use it as a monitor at 4K with no issues, but be warned that you need a high-end computer in order to get full 4K from your computer. You can use it as a monitor through HDMI at lower resolutions though without any issues as long as your computer can handle it. I’m not a gamer, so I can’t speak to how it handles those sorts of things in 4K as I know that the refresh rates really come into play with gaming more so than most other applications. Sorry if you were looking for information there, I can’t offer it. For general use as a 4K monitor though, I didn’t have any issues show up in a few hours of usage. [update] I discovered that you have to TURN ON the Screen Share within the TV in order to get it to work. Not sure why you would have to do that, as it would make sense that it would be on by default, but it needs to be turned on. I was a little bit bummed at first that I couldn’t screen mirror from my laptop/phone/tablet – though that is on me. I simply searched for devices from those streaming devices and it didn’t find the TV (Windows did find it, but said it wasn’t certified and wouldn’t give the option to connect. Once I turned on screen share on the TV, Windows found it and was able to connect without any issues). Be sure to turn on the screen sharing option within the TV and it just adds another great feature if that’s the sort of thing you like to do (share pictures/videos from your phone, tablet, laptop). [/update]

I’m not a huge audio guy, and I know that some people are and it could make a difference for them, but for me, the audio is fine directly from the TV. I’m not using any external speakers, so I can’t comment on how well it does or doesn’t work with those. It will get plenty loud enough to reach the back of a normal sized room straight from the speakers on the TV.

There is only one button on the actual TV and it controls power, channels and volume. It’s a “joystick” type of button on the bottom of the TV. I honestly haven’t used it, since it comes with a remote, but it’s there in case you lose the remote.

Love this TV. web2.0 is so fluid fast and intuitive. pictures are definitely far superb than our current 1080P. Folks, Do not buy 1080P. Once you have 4k tv , you are never going back. Its a clear choice. 4k tv are getting affordable and even without 4k streaming channel , you will still benefit from the 4k tv. You can hardly see pixels and makes any shows or movies look so professional and clear. Its been 5 days and i catch myself, standing so close to tv and mesmerizing the pictures , movies and even youtubes too! Great smart TV. Very fast playing netflix , hulu, amazon overall there is no lag . the cons however is the HDMi is located at the back instead of on the sides. bad for those wanting to mount to the wall. its possible yes but you will have to bend the cable to fit it between the wall and tv. Depending on the cables use, you may or may not be able to mount this to the wall because of where the HDMi connector is located. i use the Amazon basic hdmi cables and its flexible nicely and i am able to mount it to the wall. The hdmi end did not bend at all. Just have to place the cable carefully if you are patience. Quality made LG. if you buy any 4k tv with web2.0, go to the 4k youtube channel, Once you see this 4 k streaming channels, you are not ever going back to 1080p

Great buy if you know going in your aren’t getting a native 120Hz screen, local dimming, nor 3D., November 29, 2015

    PROS:
Supports Deep Color on HDMI 1 – which makes playing video games a visual feast. Streaming apps are easy navigate with the operating system. Decodes DTS and DD 5.1 so I can’t speak on the quality of the TV speakers. With a little tweaking for each input/app, the picture quality is amazing. Shipped quickly through Prime with no issues.

    CONS:
Over-the-air content suffers from artifacting mainly due to local broadcast tower strength and perhaps the built-in upscaler. The LG TV Plus smartphone app could use a dedicated keyboard button – in order to type with the phone rather than the tedious task of navigating an on-screen keyboard with the remote control. Does not have HEVC codec built-in so you won’t be able to stream the limited 4K content available. You’ll just have to use a device that does (Fire TV, Roku 4, etc.) My TV legs came scratched.

    OVERALL:
If you know going in that the TV isn’t the biggest and baddest out there, this is a great buy especially at $500. I would also note that being a native 60Hz screen is a pro because simply, who likes the soap opera effect? I only turn on TruMotion when I watch sports and that seems sufficient enough to fool my eyes.
