    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Samsung UN75JU7100 75-Inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Smart LED TV (2015 Model) (Electronics)

I purchased the 75 inch version of the JU7100 through Amazon (through OneCall actually). Interestingly enough my only other online TV purchase was a Panasonic plasma in 2010 and that was also through OneCall! So props to them because I ordered it Sunday and it arrived Thursday. Very impressive!

    PROS:
+ Beautiful design. The bezel and depth of the TV is very thin, and the stand is a lot more secure than I thought it would be.
+ Really deep blacks! I had a Pioneer Elite and a Panasonic plasma years ago and these are the darkest blacks I’ve seen. Of course it depends on your color settings, but more on that later.
+ Gorgeous and bright other colors! Blacks get all the attention but all the bright whites and other colors are just as good on this set.
+ Minimal “soap opera effect” on movies… I haven’t researched this effect but I notice it on a lot of LCD/LED displays where the picture just looks fake. Even on a WWII film, for example, there’s something off – like it’s a YouTube video that is a little choppy (like the framerate is off). I think that’s the reason movie buffs loved plasma over LCD all those years… but thankfully, this being my first LED TV, I can say it’s very similar to my previous plasmas in that movies look and move how they should.
+ The smart remote is actually really impressive. I still use my logitech harmony one remote for most things since I have a receiver, but when browsing samsung menus or the smart hub I’ll switch the smart remote. It has a Wii like pointer, except it’s better than the Wii because you don’t need to point to the set. No, you just lightly touch your thumb on it and wherever you’re at is where the pointer will be centered. If you need to move, just stop touching the cursor, re-position, then put your thumb back on it and you’re back to the center.
+ This TV scales lower resolution sources very nicely. Obviously you’ll want to get 1080p sources and if you do, you’ll be rewarded. And if you get 4k sources like Netflix, then it’s even better!
+ I wanted to really use this TV’s smart functionality like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube, and it’s really easy to use. With the pointer remote control, it makes browsing things similar to a mouse and I prefer that. You can still browse traditionally with the arrows on your remote but I found sometimes it was faster to just point (like when typing in searches/usernames/passwords)
+ The One Box has a optical digital out connection so those with AV receivers can easily connect it to.
+ The back of the TV stand has a nice cable management clip so you can route your wires through there so it’s hidden
+ Power consumption, if you care about that (which you should to save money), is really good. My old plasmas were listed at over $70 a year and this Samsung LED which is larger than my old plasmas is half that price. I don’t feel guilty for leaving my TV on if I have to go and do something else for 20 minutes.
+ (NEW PRO ADDED 7/22/2015) I really love the Samsung Screen Mirroring ability this TV has. I have a Samsung phone, the S5 and you can add the Screen Mirroring link on your shortcuts (like where the Bluetooth icons are) and snycing it is a cinch, it’ll find your TV super fast. It’ll completely mirror your phone, from the vertical or horizontal way. It plays sound from it very well – I haven’t tested it with music compared to something plugged in directly to my receiver, but it sounds good with the sources I’m using such as YouTube, Twitch.tv, etc. The resolution I believe is 1080p, probably not 4k but I don’t have a great way of testing it. But the reason you would use this is convenience – you can quickly access a YouTube video to show friends and put it on your big screen without having to navigate the TV menus. Even with Samsung’s Smart TV apps, it’s still easier to just use your phone in my opinion. I wouldn’t use my phone for things like Netflix or Amazon Prime, in that case I’ll use the Smart TV apps for it since the resolution and sound you know will be very good… but for quick things, and things like Twitch.tv that don’t have Samsung apps, it’s really nice to be able to get your phone to show up on your big screen in less than 5 seconds!

    CONS
    – It’s expensive but you get what you pay for. It’s a gorgeous TV that I believe will last years and years – basically we’ll all be upgrading to 12k monitors before this one ever dies out.
    – The powercable is a bit short compared to the One Box cable which is like 6 feet long. My setup is on a wide stand and I have a power surge in the middle bottom shelf… the TV’s power cable just reached while the One Box cable would have been in another area code (alright, it had 2-3 extra feet for me… but the power cable just had 2-3 inches extra)
    – With my specific setup, where the AV receiver handles all the sources and just HDMI-passthroughs to the TV set, it’s a bit annoying…

One of the best 2015 tv’s out there, IF you get the right panel (see review for more details)., December 13, 2015

Amazing tv, if you get the right panel type.

So here’s the deal on this tv. It is one of the best tv’s in 2015, but there is a lottery involved in getting it. There are 3 types of panels for the 55″ tv- IH01 & IH02, TH01, and TS01. Anything that starts with a T means that it’s a samsung panel. If it starts with an I, it’s an innolux panel, and NOT made by samsung. Basically you are getting a samsung tv without the samsung panel (stupid no? especially considering the price you pay).

I would highly advise you to buy this in stores somewhere, and check on the box of the tv itself (by the barcode) and make sure you get a TH01 or TS01 panel. I wanted to buy this tv from amazon, but ended up getting it from Frys, as the manager found me a TS01 panel (there were 2 of those, and 10 IH01’s).

With the amazing calibrations by AVS forums, this is one of the best tv’s that I’ve seen. Yes it has no HDR, but you won’t miss it for another 5 years, when it maybe becomes mainstream. I bought my tv for $1197, and hands down it’s worth that price. Out of all the 2015 mid-tier/low high end tv’s, the Sony 850C, and Samsung 7100 and up are the only good ones in my opinion, when it comes to picture quality. The Sony isn’t the best for gaming however, as it has almost a 40ms input lag (where the samsung 7100 only has about a 26ms input lag).

The 8500 is also a very good tv, but there can be light bleed as that one is a edge-lit tv (the 7100 is a direct lit), and you also may have a “lottery” with that issue on the 8500, but all 7500+ models from Samsung are going to be Samsung only panels. Also, the 8500 has about a 36ms display lag (which is the reason I ultimately didn’t end up getting it).

The 50″ 7100 is always going to be a IH01 or IH02 panel, thus not recommended (and the 55″ would be a better one to get). The 60″ tv is going to be most likely a MH01, which is made my Sharp. It’s better than the Innolux, but not as good as the samsung. If the tv size ends in a 0, it’s not going to be a samsung panel. Simple as that.

Please note that many people have had success with the IH01 or IH02 panels, so it’s not terrible, but you have more of a chance to have picture quality issues, such as clouding, and worse viewing angles. The TH/TS01’s also have a chance for the above, but much much less. I have a TS01 panel, and I love my tv!

Anyways, good luck on your search!

    (REAL NAME)

Samsung has released the JU7100 series of 4K TVs which contain a defect which makes them unable to connect to the internet via WIFI. That is the bad news. The good news is that today, 3/18/15, Samsung has issued a fix (firmware) which is available on their web site. You will need to use a flashdrive to download the fix and apply it to your TV.

Other than this problem, the TV performs as expected. Pretty straight foward to setup and operate. Oh, the remote is really nice..not your standard one your are familar with. It is very minimalist but powerful. Unlike other TVs, Samsung has adopted a separate Hub device which you plug all your cables into. There are no HDMI ports on the TV itself. Very interesting design. The Hub then connects into the back of the TV.

UPDATE: I was unable to apply the firmware using a flashdrive, evidently the TV could not read or find the file on the flashdrive. But that was not a big issue. As a work around, I hooked up my TV to my router via a cable and that worked great. The TV easily found the update and now my JU7100 is able to connect using WiFi and does not need to use the cable.

UPDATE 2: If you want to follow a great discussion about the Samsung JU7100 series 4K TV (as well virtually all other manufactures), let me suggest you go to the AVS Forum > Display Devices >LCD Panels. You will learn a lot and can ask other users questions.
