I think this is the closes a toy quad could get to a DJI Phantom without the GPS. I love everything about this quad. I was a bit intimidated by the potential set up. Boy was I wrong! Set was super easy, almost ready to fly out the box. This is a large quadcopter but still fast enough to have fun with it. So here is what I really love, besides the setup. I really love the camera, the camera gives you stunning hd pictures and the fpv review on your phone is amazing. I have might be kidding when I compare it to a Phantom but this quad really does pack a punch. The battery life is okay for such a large quad, I got about 12 minutes my first flight, but hey I was doing a lot of flips, that’s right it flips. The different rates makes this drone beginners friendly. The MJX 101 is easy to keep get in the air and keep in the air for a perfect flight. The LED lights could have been on the outside but hey you cant have it all. I give it 5 stars out of 5

I received this product in exchange for my honest review. Although I love this quad you can judge for yourself by watching the review video.

The quadcopter is a little challenging at first and I was glad my husband has some experience with RC flying because this is a little more advance than other quadcopters we have owned. When putting the quadcopter together at first my husband put the blades on backwards and the drone wouldnt fly but once he figured it out it went soaring a little faster than we even expected.

This quad is well made and the plastic is light weight for flying but also durable. The quadcopter comes with the main unit, propellers with extra replacements, remote, battery, charging cord, and a screw driver. The only thing I found myself wishing would of been included is batteries for the remote and an SD card to record the video and photos on.

The quad is unique from lesser quality models I have used in the past. The fact the that the quadcopter connects to the wifi on my phone ( or even my tablet!). I did have to download an app that goes along with the drone but it was simple to find and downloaded quickly. The app runs smoothly and I found it easy to operate and have not noticed any glitches. I can use my phone with the app to control the quadcopter like a remote, or I can use it to view the camera on the quadcopter while its recording. Its really neat to see what the quadcopter sees while it flies up high above houses .

A few neat features on the remote caught my attention and my husband even commented how great they were. The plane has a hover take off and land button. It slowly rises from the ground for take off and hovers above the ground before lightly landing. The drone flies smoothly but I admit it took us a little practice and there were even a few crashes. When the quad does crash I was pleased that it takes the impact well and didnt break or come apart.

The picture and video quality on the camera was much better than I expected and we have taken tons of video and pictures at this point of the top of our home and the field behind it. The clarity of the videos is excellent and from my phone I love watching and “”spying”” from below. The remote is intimidating at first glance but after studying the guide for a few minutes my husband and I figured out what all the buttons and switches meant and found it simple enough to operate.

Overall this quadcopter is excellent. There are a few small things I would change, like longer battery life. The battery gives about 6 minutes of flight time so I do wish that was a little longer. Even with that the small tweaks I would make I am super impressed with this quadcopter and I love how excited my husband has been to fly and play with it. I would absolutely recommend this drone, but if you are a new to flying these type of things I do recommend taking it slow and reading the directions carefully before take off. This is my husbands new favorite toy and he honestly plays with it as much as possible.

This is a awesome quadcopter. For this price range it has so many features. It’s very easy to fly. It has a 1 button take off to a certain height then it just hovers. Then you have the ability to fly it around however you want. It has a camera built in that produces pretty good video. I was surprised on the quality of the video. It comes with everything needed to fly. It has bluetooth so you can use your phone to watch what the camera sees while you are flying. It can also be controlled from a smartphone. It’s just got so many features to list in a review. It also not only has 1 button take off it has 1 button take off. It comes with prop guards, extra blades, radio, extra prop guards and the drone itself. I highly recommend this quadcopter for this price range for anyone looking for one.

Jumping Mechanism Defect in Parrot Jump(less) Sumo, December 30, 2014
    By

A Christmas present for my son. It was the one big thing he wanted. A total hit for 20 minutes, but after maybe a half dozen jumps, the Sumo stopped jumping. Did a little online research and quickly saw that others were having the same problem. Following a tutorial on YouTube, examined the internal jumping mechanism and discovered that the wheel that retracts the springs on the jumping foot had broken. It’s made of cheap plastic and snapped where the jumping mechanism grabs it to pull in the jumping foot. From a look at the reviews here at Amazon, it looks like this is a very common problem, especially with recently purchased Jumping Sumos. This is either a terrible design or there was a significant quality control problem at the factory that makes these parts. Still, my son really wanted this to work out, so I called Parrot support. What a waste of time! They were totally unhelpful and actually got a little snippy with me when I suggested this was a widespread problem. They said they didn’t know what was causing it, and they told me to send my unit back to their warranty department (which they outsource) for a replacement which would take 4-6 weeks. I said that was unacceptable, but I’d be willing to keep the Jumping Sumo and fix it myself if they sent me a supply of the plastic jump wheels. They said they couldn’t do that. All they can do is a full unit replacement which will take 4-6 weeks. I asked if they wanted to see the pictures I took of the broken jump wheel (see below). They said no. At this point, I gave up. The Jumping Sumo is going back to Amazon for a refund. Maybe we’ll try again after Parrot acknowledges the issue with their factory or makes a design change.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)

Customer Video Review Length:: 5:52 Mins

This is a review of the Parrot MiniDrones Jumping Sumo.

Although this is on the pricey side of things, it is a very fun toy that is relatively easy to learn how to operate. What a riot this little drone is. It has quite the personality making all sorts of electronic chirps and whistles. There are specific sounds accompanying the pre-configured actions that the Jumping Sumo has (tap, spin, ondulation, spin & jump, etc) but it also makes sounds when it is being ignored while being on. My dog finds this fascinating, often sitting just far enough away with her head cocked to one side trying to figure out just what exactly this thing is.

The Jumping Sumo is pretty much ready to go right out of the box. You will need to download the Free Flight 3 app to your iPad and make sure the Jumping Sumo has a full charge in its small battery.

Included with the Jumping Sumo is a USB to Micro USB charging cable and some decals that let you personalize it a bit.

Once you’ve downloaded the Free Flight 3 app, you’re just about ready to go. Just press the small on/off button on the top of the Jumping Sumo. It creates an adhoc network that you connect to with your iPad. After you’ve connected to the WiFi network created by the Jumping Sumo, you launch the Free Flight 3 app and it will connect. Tap the Free Flight corner of the screen and you’re ready to begin operating the drone.

Controls are rather easy to grasp and are overlaid over the live streaming video feed from the FPV camera.. There are pre-configured actions that the Jumping Sumo is capable of performing. It’s quite a jumper too. 2 feet into the air is not uncommon, or it can long jump, electing to go out rather than up.

The wheels can be set to a wide track or narrow. Wide is easier to control, narrow lets you turn and maneuver more nimbly.

This doesn’t like going on carpet as much as it likes hardwood floors or tile. And it especially doesn’t like going over transitions from flooring to rugs. The bump will stymie your jumping sumo unless you jump over the bump or get a good head of steam to plow your way over it.

The FPV (first person view) camera is great. You can capture still shots or record video to a MicroUSB OTG drive. Plus the FPV camera gives you a live streaming view on your iPad of where your Jumping Sumo is going. I’m not sure how much internal memory there is, but I’ve taken 25 still shots so far. You are easily able to “share” those photos to your iPad Photos app.

To record video you will need to purchase a MicroUSB OTG drive such as the Silicon Power Mobile X10 16GB USB 2.0 OTG Flash Drive for Android Smartphone/Tablet, Gold (SP016GBUF2X10V1C). Or you could get a short USB female to MicroUSB OTG adapter cable and attach a normal USB Flash Drive to that.

My only wish is that the battery had a larger capacity. This is so much fun but the battery only lasts about 15-20 minutes before popping up a low battery alert on your iPad. Getting a second battery might be a good idea to extend your play time with this.

It’s pretty durable and quite fun.

These features and the drones small size and agility make the drone fun to pilot, October 19, 2014
    By

The Jumping Sumo MiniDrone is unlike any other RC Toy on the market within the same price point. The drone can jump forward, jump up and kick, no other RC Toy currently does this. These features and the drones small size and agility make the drone fun to pilot!
    Whats in the box:
    1. Jumping Sumo MiniDrone
    2. MiniDrone Battery
    3. MicroUSB Charging Cable
    4. 2 Replacement Jumping Feet
    5. Stickers for customizing the Jumping Sumo
    6. Quick Start Guide
    Setup
    1. Charging – Use MicroUSB to charge and Takes 1.5 to 2 Hours
    2. Download the FreeFlight 3 App for free
    3. Connect to the Jumping Sumo like you would a WiFi Network, use 5GHz in the settings for less interference.
    Piloting the Jumping Sumo
    1. Left thumb for forward and reverse throttle
    2. Tilt left or right to steer
    3. Right Thumb gestures to turn in 90 or 180 degree increments, to jump up, jump forward or kick and to activate preprogrammed maneuvers and to change modes
The Jumping Sumo has three “modes”
    1. Jumping Mode – Camera faces forward so the drone can jump up or forward
    2. Kicking Mode – Camera faces backward so the drone can kick
    3. Balancing Mode – Camera faces the ground so the drone has more ground clearance and balances itself.
The tires can be “popped” in so the drone is more agile and narrow or “popped” out so the drone has a wider stance so it is easier to maneuver. The drone is very nimble and responsive to the controls, very fun to drive indoors and jumping on and over furniture and other obstacles. The drone is made well and is small but feels durable. The drone settings are configurable through the freeflight 3 app which allow customization of the piloting of the drone. The camera allow piloting of the drone in another room and to take snapshots and videos. Overall fun for the family and friends.
