Expensive plastic for a toy drone,
Technology wise, it appears to be an oversize version of the more cost-effective entry toy quad from Syma, the X8C, which I own. The Syma can be purchased on Amazon for less than $90, it’s about 2/3 the size of this quad (still quite large), it comes with a 2MP camera, and it’s got enough performance to fly the Yi 1080P camera and an isolation mount that I sometimes fly on it. The stock camera isn’t great given what you’re paying for it, but the more recent X8C’s have a rubber isolation mount that allows the camera to actually capture half decent video. The X8C is a good option to consider as an entry-level quad, although it is also fairly heavy and will break if you hit an immovable object like a tree, a house or the ground. It will also do a little damage to someone if you run into them.
Syma’s X5C is smaller and much lighter than the X8C, and it’s probably one of the best choices of a quad to learn on. It can be had on Amazon for under $50, and it also comes with a cheap camera. Take the camera off and the X5C is a very stable and very quick aircraft that can be flown indoors or out. I’ve flown mine in 10-15 mph winds… a little tough, but doable. This was my first quad and it has survived a number of falls from the sky. And when it does break, parts are readily available and very cheap, which is probably not the case for this monster drone.
If you really want to start out spending close to $200, you can find inexpensive REAL quads with brushless motors that will almost certainly hold up better than any quad with brush motors. However, the $200 price point is not a particularly good target. It’s too much for a toy drone and too little for a really decent drone, which can be had for not too much more.
Sorry for sharing an opinion of this monster toy, but I’d really recommend starting with an X5C or one of the several other $40-$60 entry-level toy drones. After getting a little experience, you’ll either stop flying or get the bug and buy or build a real copter.

While some of the other drones are better than this one,
Now for the negative, this will be short because its hard to find a lot wrong with this drone. I’ve had a little problem with the camera. Sometimes it says it’s recording but when I try and upload the video it wasnt saved. The yaw is a little slow too, and it dosnt get any faster through the different settings. The last thing, although I doubt Holy Stone makes their own batteries, is one of the batteries takes almost 3 hours to charge and seems to drain quickly.
Hope this review is helpful, this is an awesome xcopter for begineers and intermediate flyers. You also cant beat what you get for the price.

A perfect place to start in the hobby!,
Customer Video Review Length:: 9:29 Mins
This is a great quadcopter to learn on. I have attached a video for beginners with this review. I hope this helps anyone wanting to get into the hobby. It’s a lot of stick movements to show you the right amount of input you should use to learn to hover. I have also included links to my full video review of the Holy Stone F181 and flight videos to show you how nice it can perform.
I am an advanced flyer and still really enjoy flying this quad. So for advanced flyers this quad has a fairly slow yaw, so it’s ability in the turns is not quick, but in high the pitch is decent and you can get this quad moving. It is also the coolest looking quad. The Cylon like body and head lamp are really awesome looking. This would look great in any collection.
That being said about the somewhat slow yaw, I think this is a big plus for beginners. The yaw can really frustrate and confuse beginners trying to learn. So having a slower one is a good thing for learning. I highly recommend this quad for people wanting to get into the hobby, or wanting to learn before getting a high dollar multirotor for filming. This has a decent camera for a toy quad and you can practice getting shots very easily. It is a very stable quad, so learning the basics is nice and easy on the F181.
Intermediates would love this quad too, you can strip it down (no prop guards, landing feet, or camera) and it will preform much better and you can learn to sport fly with it. So it doesn’t get boring after you learn the basics. It actually becomes more fun, because it has 4 speed rates and it gets faster with each as you advance.
Overall I really love this design and the flight characteristics this quad has. I would highly recommend it for beginners and intermediates.
