MJX 101C Review: Good stuff with a few hiccups!,

Before I write the review of the MJX 101C, I must first give praise where praise is due. The customer service at Nova Tech US is by far, the BEST service I’ve had on Amazon. I realize this is a pretty big statement, but it’s true. They are personable, fast to respond and seem to do whatever they can do, within reason, to make sure you are taken care of. I will certainly do future business with these guys. Thank you, Bella, for making me feel like a quality customer and not just a number in line!
Now, onto the review!
If you are looking for a step up from your beginner drone, BY THIS QUADCOPTER! Make sure you download the APP named: MJX FPV if you are getting the camera! I’ve also added some video taken with the quad.
Pros:
– It is an absolute BLAST to fly and you will have no trouble getting your kicks doing dive bombs and funnels and circles once you get good enough to move on to high rights.
– Durable! I’ve had several bad crashes because I was just really pushing it to see what it could do. Several times, I was amazed after several hard crashes that it just got right back up and started flying again. I’ve cracked a couple motor guards, and have ordered more.
– Can record SD video and sends a video signal to your phone for FPV.
– Very cool to see your quad’s perspective from your phone.
– Battery lasts about 10 minutes without camera plugged, which is more than enough time to have fun.
– The size is probably larger than what you are used to, and this is a Pro because it is very stable. In fact, this quadcopter has flown in very windy conditions (which I don’t recommend for a beginner) and does really good. The stability is very, very good.
– Trim controls are precise and easy to tweak to get the quad level.
– This thing goes very high! I’ve yet to lose control of this quad, yet. I’m not good at distance judgement, but it gets up there! I’ve wanted to try and “lose it” to see how high I can get, but haven’t just yet.
Cons:
– The instructions on this guy are simply poor, to say the least. I felt very frustrated with it. The biggest problem with the instructions is that, it told me to download the incorrect APP in order to do the FPV flying and recording to the SD card. *** Download the app named: “MJX FPV” !!! ***
– Short battery life when using the camera! Buy more batteries and perhaps a charger that charges multiple batteries at a time to get you back up in the skies faster.
– The FPV to your phone only works for a certain amount of distance. The signal will cut out.
– Don’t buy this drone if you are hoping to fly the drone simply by FPV. There is a lag and the quality isn’t superb.
– Can be very easy to lose orientation since the quad is the same color (white) all over. I’ve bought “black” motor guards to hopefully help with this. And to be fair, the front arms a little shorter than the back arms, so you get used to it.
– The camera wire that goes to the battery pulled out of its plastic plug! Very frustrating… I had to solder it back in to work in the meantime. Nova Tech (the people selling this drone), graciously offered to send me a replacement wire and even an extra battery. I mean, what service. WOW!!!!
FYIs:
– Make sure you let the motors rest about 10 minutes in between flights. You will burn them out if you don’t let them cool down. I’ve had to order spare motors from Bangood (the maker) along with some other spare parts. These parts are very, very cheap, so it’s not a big deal at all to me. I just have to wait for them to come back from China.
– Watch out for the auto flip button on the controller, it can take you by surprise… and in a bad way. During flight, if you are just messing around and hit the autoflip button or are in 100% rates, you can go all the way with your yaw and it just starts doing a roll or flip. This is so weird to me, so if you are not aware of this function, it can really make your heart drop for a second. Also, I was just messing around in my house with the quad and I was trying to see what buttons did what, and I hit the autoflip button and it almost took off my head. Be careful!
– When recording to the SD Card, it will continue to record even though you’ve lost video signal to your phone, which is a plus! You just cant see what you are recording.
– Have realistic expectations with the video. This isn’t a DJI quad on a video gimble, so you’ll get video “jello” and the quality is decent. So, if you know that and are just looking to see what things look like from up there, you’ll be satisfied.
Summary:
This quad is very fun. If you can avoid stuff that messed me up, you’ll have a great experience. Take care of the quad, and it will take care of you. Stay safe, watch out for people, and make sure you fly in a safe, fun place!

First – let me say that there are a few things you should do right when you get this drone.
1. Get battery charging. Mine came charged. But you have time…so do this first.
*The instructions show you how to take the battery pack out.
*The charger doesn’t come with a power brick but your iPhone charger brick works fine.
*Note that the charge cable seems like it won’t work…until you get the battery completely out. It has a separate charge male end that isn’t visible at first.
2. Put the Blades on (don’t forget the medium screws for this and then the protector plugs)
*BIG NOTE – you have 2 kinds of blades “A and B” or I call them “S and backwards S”.
*You must put 2 of each on the copter. In clockwise order, it goes A, B, A, B. So that matching blades are on opposing sides.
3. Put the Blade protectors on (there are tiny screws for these.)
4. Decide whether you are using the cam. If you are, get the APP. On the App Store it is ‘cx32wifi’.
*This App does not look very professional (lower case name and such), but it works. It’s basic.
5. Learn your controls.
*The App will let you control the drone and the camera; which will then send pictures back to your phone. This is done by connecting your phone’s wifi antenna to your drones wifi signal (it produces its own wireless id which will be obvious like ‘cx32wifi’).
*If you don’t use the App, then the controller is fine…but get a lanyard for it. Once in a while you will want to drop it to dive and save your quadcopter from danger :P…or at least I do because I am not great at flying it yet.
*Both will let you take pictures, but you need an microSD card to take pictures with the controller.
*Note that the one touch up button when pressed twice will send the drone right at your ceiling if you are indoors (I was).
6. Re-install the battery.
7. GO OUTSIDE
8. Test away.
The blades are flimsy…but that is not a bad thing. You will break even stronger blades. Just be glad that they generally are too weak to cut people, or damage property. Plus, this way, its much cheaper to buy replacements. With that said, my only real complaint about this drone is that the blades seem to be no where on Amazon. **If I can find a good Amazon link, I will append that to this review.
So why does this drone lose a star? Only 2 reasons, hard to find blades, and ‘iffy looking’ app.
