  2015 Vizio M-series is by far the best bang for your buck, May 26, 2015

  I purchased my 2015 Vizio M55-C2 about 1 month ago. Overall I think this is an excellent 4K TV. The FALD(Full Array Local Dimming) works great. It allows you to maintain deep blacks along with great shadow detail. No other TV offers FALD in this price range.

  There are a few issues with this TV though. There is a bug in the software that will prevent the TV from using the motion interpolation settings that you have saved. You MUST turn on Game Low Latency setting for every single profile you setup on every single input until that issue is resolved with a firmware update(The latest firmware has resolved this issue). The SOE(Soap opera Effect) and the motion artifacts will be unbearable unless you do that.

  Also the 55” version of this TV does not accept 1080p @ 120 FPS and it does not display 4K @ 60 FPS 4:4:4 properly. It will display 4K @ 30 FPS 4:4:4 properly but not at 60 FPS. You only need that if you hook up a computer to it though. 4K videos are not ever produced at 4K @ 60 FPS. They are all either 24 FPS(for movies and sometimes youtube) or 30 FPS(for youtube) and most video games do not support 4K @ 60 FPS either.

  This TV must be calibrated properly though. If you take it straight out of the box and watch it you won’t be satisfied. You must buy a calibration blu-ray disc like DVE(Digital Video Essentials) and calibrate the colors and the shadow details for it to show the full potential of the TV.

  The individual color settings are specific to each person’s TV so I can’t post those. However, I will post the other settings below that I use and why I use them. These settings apply to all sizes of the 2015 Vizio M-series TVs.

  1. Select the “Calibrated” or “Calibrated Dark” profile. The only difference between them is the backlight setting.

  2. Backlight – This setting is environment specific. In a bright room it can go up to 43. In a dark room it should go as low as 23. No higher or lower though and make sure you turn Auto Brightness control off if you want to control this setting. I turn Auto Brightness Control on only for my TV that is outside the house. The light varies too much there so it helps to leave it in Auto mode in that situation only.

  3. Brightness and Contrast – Do not touch these settings. They are setup by default to offer the greatest dynamic range the TV can have. Altering these values will only decrease the dynamic range of the TV. Most people that are disappointed with the TV have altered the values for this parameter. That is desirable on other TVs but not these Vizios. Vizio does not allow this TV to pass blacker than black or whiter than white(Without the latest firmware) so they select the optimal values for these settings by default in calibrated mode. It would be very difficult to set the correct values for these parameters if they didn’t do this because the TVs don’t pass blacker than black(Without the latest firmware).

  4. Color – Each Tv is different. However, 59 is a great starting place here. Start with 59 and then adjust each individual color. If you can’t get it right then try lower than 59. Any higher than this will start to clip certain colors no matter what you do for each individual setting.

  5. Tint – Don’t touch this setting. It is much better to adjust the individual colors.

  6. Sharpness – This is up to the user. 9 is good if you don’t like over sharpening. 45 is good if you do like it.

  More Picture Options

  1. Picture Mode – Standard. Then adjust each individual color in the Color Calibration menu.

  2. Black Detail – I use “Low” for this setting. However, it can give skin tones uneven transitions. Use “off” if that is the case for you.

  3. Active LED Zones – Turn this on in all cases. There are no downsides to using it. It will decrease the backlight slightly but that needs to be done anyway. It will just mean that you need to decrease it less. However, it will also give you deep blacks without any blooming throughout the picture. If you don’t turn this setting on you are wasting your money buying this TV.

  4. Motion Blur and Judder – With the latest firmware a setting of 1-2 for Judder and a setting of 5-6 for Motion Blur will now smooth out motion without producing a noticeable Soap Opera Effect.

  5. Clear Action- Useless setting that causes flickering and reduces the backlight dramatically. I literally cannot watch the TV with this setting on. Never turn this setting on.

  6. Game Low Latency – Yup, you have to turn it on until they fix the firmware issue(Fixed with latest firmware).

  I’m not sure how Amazon relates reviews to products . Many of the reviews here have no relationship to my TV , the 70in 4kM model 240hz ultra hd LED TV . Reviews vary from 40 in 42in 50 in 120 hs , non 4k TV . Careful what you read .
  Another caveat . Several reviews describe using this TVas a monitor for their computer or for gaming . I bought this for a home entertainment center. I suspect most others are looking for the same . So my review is for the M70 4k ultra hd smart LED hdtv 240 hs. For my stated purpose. If you want this for home entertainment my review is for you .
  The picture is beyond expectations . Crisp , no blur , no judder or sputter . You can watch formula.1 racing or Jason Spieths fastest swing with no blur . The picture needs tweaking . This takes less than 5 min.. Flesh tones are spot on . Set up is simple . The stands are good and hold this monster stable . Viewing from any angle is great to awesome. No bad . The picture is far better than any movie theatre .in any mode , 4k or not , the picture is clear ,crisp and as I said awesome . The 4k from Netflex rivals Ansel Adams for clarity and detail . Nature documentaries put you in the scene. Though not 3d it feels like it . The depth of colors is natures own .
  No one wishing a home theatre would expect the sound from ANY TV screen to be adequate. I have 7 speakers , a great receiver , a giant twin speaker ( heavy ) woofer from THX . Two rear speakers are imbedded in the ceiling . You are NOT buying this TV to be a sound system . You are buying a truly superb picture . It’s senseless to comment on the sound quality. Quality sound is impossible in any flat screen. So , expect to spend whatever your budget can stand for sound .
  So how do I rate this TV . I wish I could give 10 stars . You cannot do better for picture quality. I recommend a good audio sound specialist or a name brand system . Don’t forget your theater chairs , popcorn machine , etc.. I could add tech talk . But , why! Enjoy . My puppy loves the picture.
  One additional important point . Using Amazon prime the set arrived when promised . Two very nice men unboxed , set the screen on the stands , plugged it in and waited to be sure there was no damage or grey screen . Making sure we were pleased they then carried away the debris.

  I have the M43-C1 4K UHD TV. It’s AWESOME.. Black is TRUE black (completely dark, thanks to active LED zones), and resolution is crisp. No pixel issues, and screen is semi-matte (no reflections thank you VIZIO!). I use it as my computer monitor @ 3840×2160. More monitor than I’ll ever need. The screen density at this size works out perfectly. It’s like a regular monitor only the borders are very far apart So I don’t have any text size issues. It supports every single resolution I threw at it, over HDMI. It has 5 HDMI ports, but the one you’ll want to hook up is HDMI5, which runs 4K@60hz. The PQ is remarkable, and the speed for gaming is adequate. I’m using it on my Alienware Alpha steam box that runs it at full resolution perfectly. For gaming I reduce the resolution to 1080p and it’s REALLY fast without any shearing or artifacts (just make sure your game has V-Sync enabled).

  Overall for $579 (From Costco), it was a steal in my opinion. Love love love it.

  Vizio is a lower end brand so they are competing on value and features. And this one is chock full of features–as I said earlier 5 HDMI ports, USB input, Component video, analog audio out, SPDIF optical port and a wired ethernet port. The app interface is quite snappy too. Much quicker than my Roku 2XS. It has built in wireless that supports 802.11ac, b, n and supports higher 5.0ghz band as well. It runs at 120hz and has the frame interpolation (aka home-video effect) which you can turn off, under the Reduce Jutter and Reduce Motion Blur settings. That way you get the true cinematic quality intended in movies. It has several picture modes (standard, calibrated, calibrated dark, vivid, game and computer). It has two native modes, 1080p and 2160p. It will automatically choose the mode needed for your resolution, but it won’t scale the video, so you will get black bars in the extra space if your ratio is not exactly the same as the native resolutions. Should you want to stretch or enlarge the picture, you can do that too. Another cool aspect is that the remote has a full keyboard on the backside. Just so awesome.. So many features compared to my brother in-law’s Samsung 4K TV which is very basic and cost 3 times as much (although it is a 55″). That TV didn’t even support screen cast from my Samsung Note 4, and it’s a Samsung. Jeez (you’d think!). Anyway, VIZIO has REALLY impressed me. For many years I avoided them like the plague but they really got their act together. A few other notable features; Surround sound, Volume Leveling, Lip Sync adjustments, Equalizer adjustments, auto brightness control, color temp settings, noise reduction, low latency setting (for gaming), color space and gamma controls, Timer settings (power, screen blank, screen saver, sleep), and a detailed System Information page.

  I purchased the matching VIZIO soundbar that takes SPDIF input and it pairs perfectly with the monitor, err… I mean TV
